"There is nothing stronger than the heart of a volunteer".- Alec Baldwin in "Pearl Harbor"
Many people have found it very rewarding to volunteer with Dawson County Humane Society! While we have a small, paid staff that is invaluable to the operation of our organization, our Volunteers contribute in so many ways! Volunteer opportunities include:
Adult Volunteer Opportunities
Our organization is comprised of many groups and committees that use their skills and talents to support their love of animals.

Our off-site adoption teams, appearing every Saturday and Sunday at the Petsmart in Cumming, GA (Exit 14 off GA 400) and Gainesville, GA are always happy to welcome new set-up/breakdown volunteers - contact Deb Maxwell at dawsonhumane@windstream.net to learn more!

Fundraising and special events are an important source of income for providing our homeless pets with the care and love they deserve. If you like to work with people, are community-oriented, and don't mind rolling up your sleeves and "just get it done", we could use your help! Please check our "Calendar of Events" to review upcoming volunteer opportunities, and contact Liza Chapman at lizachapman@me.com to discuss how you can contribute to the "fun" in fundraising!

Shelter Care - do you enjoy caring for animals to ensure that they have a clean, safe and healthy environment while they await adoption to their "forever home"? Many opportunities are available - cleaning cat cages and dog runs, doing laundry, walking the dogs, socializing kittens, landscaping, running errands . . . no job too big or too small . . . we need your help to maintain our facility. Please call the Shelter at 706-265-9160 to ask how you can help!
-
Foster Care - all too often, young or sick animals require special care by dedicated "foster parents" who provide food, shelter and plenty of tender-loving-care in their homes. A simple home visit is required, and some of the costs of foster care are incurred by the foster parent, but DCHS volunteers have found this a truly rewarding experience. Please contact the Shelter at 706-265-9160 for more information about Foster Care.
Teen and Community Service Opportunities
Many high school and college curriculums require minimum hours spent doing community service, and Dawson County Humane Society is happy to help you meet these requirements. Based upon your age, we have a variety of volunteer opportunities (some require parental or guardian supervision) which you will find both fun and rewarding. Please contact the Shelter at 706-265-9160 to learn more, or contact Deb Maxwell (Shelter Director) at dawsonhumane@windstream.net. Court-imposed Community Service is scheduled directly with our Shelter. Please call 706-265-9160 to learn more about how you can complete your obligation.
